UNIQUE FACADE SHAPES INTO 300 HANGING EXTERIOR WALL ELEMENTS
The “Südpark” project, from the architects Herzog & de Meuron, is a center for living, shopping and working near the Basel SBB railway station.
De Meuron explained that the “Südpark” was built as a block edge building, inspired by the building typology of Basel’s city district “Gundeli” in the 19th century. From the historical window shapes, 12 have been used for the facade.
For this project, Cocoon System AG delivered more than 25’000 meters of lightweight steel profiles, which were processed by Erne AG into 300 external wall elements with different sizes. In total, the facade surface area contains over 6’500 m².
8 steps for the finished facade :
- Sampling
- Feasibility checks and planning
- Cutting and assembling
- Clinching and frame construction
- Windows and wiring
- Planking
- Storage and transport
- Mounting
