ROOM-IN-ROOM SOLUTIONS WITH VERY HIGH SOUND INSULATION REQUIREMENTS

Historic structure connected with modern architecture – in this way the two architects Buol & Zünd integrated the Jazz Campus Building gently in the context of the district. The construction is maintained by the music academy Basel and the university of north-west-Switzerland (FHNW).

The existing building was supposed to be converted into a conservatory with different rooms, which are suitable for different uses, activities and instruments. There should be no contact point between the walls of the inner shell and the outer shell due to the high acoustic insulation requirements.

The room-in-room solution system, a lightweight steel framing construction made of Cocoon profiles, also used as a composition for the mounting of all acoustically-effective design elements.

The basic construction of the room-in-room solution were made with C- and U- Transformer profiles. For the roofs, Cocoon Transformer-double holders were applied.

In total, 6’700 meters of Cocoon Transformer profiles and more than 4’000 m² Knauf Silentboard and Diamond plates were joined to realize the project.
